I went to Falkenstein-Waldhof Castle on my way back from Bastogne Belgium after seeing some of the historical sites there. It was an easy hike but the castle gates were closed so I was unable to enter the main castle area. The entire area is gorgeous and I’ll have to return to see what else I can find!
The Falkenstein Hike
The hike is easy to moderate with lots of forest hiking to get to the castle. We went through the forest trail on the way to the castle but took the road on the way back. The road is obviously easier but I wanted to go down into the valley and see what was there. It’s a well-worn path and there is some upkeep with bridges and handrails in some areas on the side of the valley.
The castle was closed so I wasn’t able to see the actual castle area up close. I’m not sure when it opens or who opens it but I’ll have to investigate more. The whole area seems to be a preserve and there are lots of forest areas in this region of Germany and Luxembourg. The Our River moves slowly down the valley and there are lots of little villages and towns along the way. It’s a cool spot and I plan on returning! Happy trekking!
