Ready to make the most of your VAT-free privileges at Ikea? Here’s a simple step-by-step guide on how to save 19% at the world’s largest furniture store!
First, ensure you’re enrolled in the VAT-free program and have access to a VAT-free form. I usually use the Rhine Ordnance Barracks VAT office, located inside the Java cafe, as it’s usually faster and more convenient than the Ramstein VAT office. Please note that obtaining a VAT form costs $10.
Second, head to Ikea and select the items you wish to purchase. Proceed to the checkout and pay for your items. After completing your transaction, whether through self-checkout or with a cashier, do not leave the kiosk without requesting a second receipt. An attendant will access the system and print out the second receipt for your records.
Third, make your way to the customer service area, which is situated to the left of the self-checkout area. At the ticket kiosk, select the “tax-free” option to generate your customer service number and then wait for your turn.
Finally, approach the customer service representative, providing them with your VAT-free form, the original receipts, and your military ID. It’s essential to ensure that you submit your receipts by the end of the calendar month, and you can submit up to 10 original receipts for that month per VAT form.
A couple of key points to remember: you must have the original receipts , and it’s crucial to complete this process by the end of the month in which your purchases were made. This means you can shop multiple times throughout the month and then visit the VAT office at a more convenient time before the month’s end.
Happy Shopping!
