Bacharach Germany Weekend Getaway

Need to get away for a few days? Head down to Bacharach Germany! Here’s a few details to note for your upcoming weekend trip to the Rhine River valley.

Bacharach Lodging

We stayed at the Bacharach Gingerbread House. It’s an Airbnb owned by a local and it’s furnished great and located in a great spot! The inside is furnished like an old 1800s house but has modern amenities. It’s also located right on the river and trail so you can go into town or start hiking the vineyard trails. It is inside the wall so you’ll have to park down by the river or up the hill.

There are a few other hotels in the town like the Rhein-Hotel. We got lucky with the Airbnb being available but I think we could have gotten a few other spots if we needed to. Regardless, you could also stay elsewhere and hike or bike almost the entire length of that scenic portion of the river.

Downtown Bacharach

There are several small restaurants and local shops inside the city wall. We ate one night in town at Posthof Bacharach. It was pretty good but it was standard German food. The main thing we wanted was a big German salad and we found that there!

There are a few other restaurants around town. The most popular place on google was the Stübers Restaurant in the Rhein Hotel. We checked out the menu but weren’t interested. There are several other small roadside places around the town but none of the others interested us.

We also did some shopping at a few small shops in town but we weren’t there for shopping!

Hiking Around Bacharach

The main attraction around Bacharach is the hiking! There are basically an entire group of trails and paths down the entire length of the Rhine River from Koblenz to Bingen! You can follow close to the river or even take trails along the top of the river valley. We decided to hit the trail along the hills!

We hiked up to the castle along the local Bacharach trail. It’s pretty steep so be ready to dig in and go up! We just went up to Burg Stahleck which is a hostel and cafe at the top and had a great overlook. We did do some walking around the area and got to enjoy seeing the vineyards on the steep hills and a few other great looks at the river and the valley!

Conclusion

We went to Bacharach for a quiet weekend and that’s exactly what we got! This time of year (April) was quiet and nice to just read, hike, have a beer, and get away! The gingerbread house was a real highlight. I’d recommend anyone try to stay there because it really was a treat! The hiking is always top notch and the views are always well worth it!
