Erfenstein Castle is one of three castles on the “Three Castle Trail” located in the Palatinate Forest. It is situated near Burg Spangenberg and Burg Breitenstein and all of these castles can be visited! I just visited and it was so easy to hike up to. Here’s what to expect on your next hiking trip!
How to Get to Erfenstein
There is a small dirt parking lot right at the base of the castle. It’s easy to get to and there were a few spots open on the day I visited. I’d expect a full lot on busier days so get there early if you can! It is also the same lot for getting to its sister castle, Burg Spangenberg
The Hike
The hike is extremely simple and easy. Take the road up several hundred meters then turn left at the small trail that follows the hill up to the castle. The trail is narrow and there are several stone steps near the top to finish out the path.
The Castle
Erfenstein Castle has a long history in the area and there’s even some lore associated with its neighboring castle, Burg Spangenberg. It has a wonderful sitting and viewing area and you can continue on many trails after visiting Erfenstein. It’s a great Sunday hike spot for anyone to get away from the hustle for a short time!
