I visited the Victorinox Store in Brunnen, Switzerland and I was so surprised at a unique opportunity that isn’t found at most stores in Switzerland. The Knife-making experience was a fun highlight of the trip and was simple enough to book and get there. Here’s how:
How to Get Brunnen
I was home-based out of Lucerne while I was in Switzerland and it made for a good starting point for most of the train system, but more importantly, the regional train that goes to Brunnen. We took the S3 train from Lucerne train station located right in the middle of the city. It takes approximately an hour to get there with a few stops along the way. The views along the route will be worthwhile and it’s not a bad ride. The end of the line is Brunnen so it will be hard to miss which is the right stop.
The Knife-Making Experience
The Brunnen Victorinox Store is located right downtown and right next to the lakefront. It’s a short walk from the train station. It has several different items from Victorinox including kitchen knives, utility knives, luggage, watches, and what we came for, the knife-making exhibit. You can call them at +41418256020 or email them at: [email protected] to book your family fun!
The exhibit is simple and it is more of a novelty but very enjoyable for the whole family. You will be assembling the parts of a Swiss army knife rather than any kind of forging or sharpening. The two options are the “Climber” or the “Spartan”. Each knife style has a different selection of blades and tools you can use to create your knife. The blade and plastic casing can be personalized. It was fun to see all the individual components and the pieces of metal that comprise a Swiss Army Knife.
The exhibit took approximately 30 minutes per person and you will have a store member guiding you the entire time. You can engrave the plastic casing for free but there are a few upcharges if you want certain add-ons engraving. My final price was about $50 and I didn’t get any add-ons. Overall it was really great and fun. I wasn’t expecting much but it did impress! Well worth it!
