I always love stopping at roadside monuments and I discovered the OK-KS-MO Tri-State Marker. It was a fun stop and even had a fun place to stand to be in three states. It’s an easy drive off the interstate and is worth a quick stop.
A Little History
An 800 member team started at the tri-state marker for an expedition to survey the land into Missouri according the plaque next to the ground-mounted surveyer plaque. There is also a rock cairn about 50 feet to the west that was originally built in 1938 and was a public works monument.
The Missouri Association of County Surveyors erected a ground plaque on the actual spot in 2004. It’s in the middle of a dead-end road. There’s plenty of parking around the area for your car so should be an easy stop.
What’s there?
The official monument is located at 36.998595, -94.617933. The old marker is about 50 feet to the west. The Downstream Casino is located just to the west of the marker and a gas station is at the exit by the monument. If you need a break from the road there’s plenty around besides the marker. One odd thing to note is you will have to get off the interstate on exit 1 in Missouri, then drive northwest into Kansas to then drive south down a gravel road to the marker. The casino is down the road and located in Oklahoma. It’s an interesting tri-state border for sure! Safe Travels to the OK-KS-MO Tri-State Marker!
