Red Rock Canyon Adventure Park

Red Rock Canyon Adventure Park or formerly Red Rock Canyon State Park is located approximately two miles south of Hinton Oklahoma. It is a unique place and a wonderful place for camping or trekking. It is a uniquely Oklahoma place with camping, rappelling, hiking, swimming, and fishing. It’s a top destination and I highly recommend it!

Red Rock Canyon Adventure Park formally Red Rock Canyon State Park

Red Rock Canyon Adventure Park is known for its main attraction, the Red Rock Canyon cliffs that run the entirety of the park. The canyons are majestic! The entire park runs through a valley that is surrounded on both sides by the towering canyons. There is even a canyon finger the juts off the main valley and you can tent camp in the Canyon Campground tent area amongst all the towering cliffs. The Canyon Campground area consists of the northern part of the canyon area. It consists of a tent camping area and nine RV spots.

The middle section of the park is the Walnut Grove area and also consists of a tent camping area and thirteen RV camping spots. A group area and playground is located in this center area. Also, two other group areas are located in the Walnut Grove area so plenty of space available for family and friendships. Another canyon area juts out that is not currently being used. There is an old playground area that isn’t useful for play but it is a large area that I’ve used for night time photography before.

Finally, the southern part of the park is the California Road section. This area is the main RV camping area and there are ample spots in this area. There are twenty-nine RV spots in this section but only one tent camping area. This is also one group area for rent in this area.

Activities at Red Rock Canyon

There are tons of other unique activities in addition to the camping and trekking in the park. The top activity is rock rappelling. There at least two main climbing areas. The first one is the area by the swimming pool. This area is near the pool, club social store, and two other tent camping area. The second climbing area is the California rappelling area. There were several amateurs and kids scrambling around the rocks when I visited. The rocks give ample opportunity for fun.

The park also includes a swimming pool! It’s a welcome addition on the hot days and when I visited it was full of families enjoying the day. It’s situated right next to the cliff walls and honestly is an awesome place to be swimming and enjoying the day while being right next to the tall cliffs. I’d recommend it 100%!

Finally, hiking in the park is second to none! The main trail totally circumnavigates the park and is several miles. The trail is highlighted by the fact it is near the edge of the cliffs and you can get great views of the valley below. It’s exciting to think the Native Americans would use this valley as protection and to corral animals. It’s exciting to be traveling in their footsteps.

Amenities

The showers and bathroom areas are modern and seem to be relatively new. Please note, the showers in the Canyon area requires a token to activate the water. The bathroom areas all look similar to the one in the Canyon area so I’d assume they are also token activated for showers. The bathrooms were adequate but obviously have been used out in the wilderness, but everything functioned.

The camping areas consisted of tent areas without a fire ring, tent camping with a fire ring, and RV spots. The tent areas were first come first served so make sure you get there early if you want to get good tent spots. The RV spots are assigned and you can make those arrangements on the website. Each fire ring had a grill grate over the wood fire area. If you’re a lover of open fire cooking like I am, this makes things a lot easier.
