Free camping is always a nice thing to find when truck camping. I found a wonderful and convenient spot to truck camp on my way to Montana in central North Dakota. I use the app “FreeRoam” to find places and I found Sweet Briar Dam State Game Management Area just west of Bismarck North Dakota.

Sweet Briar Dam State Game Management Area Overview
The area is a large lake and grassy area with several camping spots all around the lake. The sites are mowed and maintained with a picnic table and a fire ring. There isn’t much besides a spot and a table unfortunately but that makes it perfect for just one quick night. Lots of space is available around the lake for fishing. Pit toilets are located around the park but none were located on the eastern side.

It is near the interstate and you’ll hear road noise so be prepared. That is the only noise I could hear!
Accessability
The park is right off the interstate and roads are either paved or well-maintained gravel.
Privacy
The campsites are spaced far away from each other. There also isn’t much foliage for privacy because there’s only grass around each campsite.
Amenities
There are only pit toilets (which I didn’t see but signs and other reviews indicated them there), a picnic table, and a fire ring. A boat ramp for fishing on the lake is available. That’s really about it.
