Vêves Castle in Belgium is a picturesque château near Dinant. It is the home of sleeping beauty and the castle doesn’t disappoint with its whimsical character. Veves is also near some great hiking and forested areas of the region. The region is also full of other castles you can visit. Check out my blog on Walzin Castle just down the road from here. You can even do a hike between the castles. Make sure to add Veves to your castle tour next time you’re in Belgium!

Getting to Veves
Veves Castle is located near Dinant Belgium. It does have a small parking area near the cafe but on a busy day I arrived it was very full and many cars were just parked along the road. There are also trails between the castles in the area so you can actually make this castle a part of a larger hike around the area. You have the option of the local trails and there were lots of people who also just walked along the roads. Finally, there is a small cafe located near the parking lot so you will have some options for food and drink.
Veves Castle
The castle is another picturesque castle that some say has a “sleeping beauty” vibe to it similar to the Disney Castle. They do really pump up the sleeping beauty aspect and even have a mannequin in a bed in one of the rooms. The castle is really unique in its look and has large spires and elegant rooms inside. There has been a structure in this area since the 1200s but the current castle took its form in the 1400s. The castle is still in the family and runs a trust presided over by Count Hadelin de Liedekerke Beaufort.
The Tour
The tour around the castle is the main attraction. Guided and unguided tours are available in several different languages. More information can be found on the official site on times and options for the guided tours. I just arrived and went to the window and there were unguided tours available. The tour is definitely a walk back into the 1800s! There are rooms furnished with plush old European furniture and they even have sleeping beauty in a bed!
Another big aspect of the tour was all the children who were dressed up as knights or princesses. That was a highlight for so many families who visited the castle. Make sure you ask the counter if that’s something you’d want to enjoy with your children. It does sound pretty fun to be a knight or princess in a castle and go on a scavenger hunt around a medieval castle! Happy trekking!
