Lucerne Switzerland Overview
Lucerne is a beautiful family-friendly trip; even if you’re a solo traveler, you can find tons of things to do in the Lucerne area too. I went on this trip thinking it would be boring but it turned into a beautiful trip! The hotel, food, and trips were all unexpectedly great and easy to get to!
We enjoyed a knife-making day in Brunnen. The train ride to the town was also a beautiful highlight! The views from the dock were also gorgeous and an added highlight once we were there and had lunch. The Pilatus fondue gondola was an awesome trip and really fun. It had some great views and it was enjoyable to eat and have a glass of wine up the mountain.
Finally, just walking around the city is great. There’s the lion monument in the side of the cliff. There’s a great shopping street. There are several chocolatier shops. Public transit around town is easy and cheap. You can walk to a lot of places if you want. The food was great but it was busy so be ready to call ahead or wait. The lake views and historic buildings are a great backdrop to the trip so don’t be afraid to just enjoy the city!
Knife Making in Brunnen
We took the S3 train to Brunnen and to start, the views of that train ride were a cool highlight of the Swiss countryside. We arrived at the Swiss Army Knife store in Brunnen. It was a really fun time and enjoyed seeing the individual parts of a Swiss Army Knife and to use some tools and machines to put all the parts together. See the map and link to see how to set up your next knife-making experience if you’re in the Lucerne area!
Pilatus Fondue Gondola near Lucerne
The Pilatus Fondue Gondola was another awesome highlight! You get to enjoy cheese and wine up to the midway point to Pilatus. It’s a fun way to see the town, lake, and mountains from your gondola car! You can also stop at two different stops if you want to hike around or see the cafes. Just make sure to note when the last gondola car leaves for the base station.
Conclusion
Lucerne Switzerland is an awesome trip and you should make it there to enjoy what it has to offer. The people were friendly, and helpful, and even enjoyed talking about tips and tricks for getting around the region. One possible con is the expense of getting around town and buying food. Expect higher than average prices due to the Swiss Franc and the general costs of living in an expensive city. Higher costs were the only major issue most visitors would find. I had a great time, used public transit easily, and got to explore and have some fun at the Swiss Army Knife store and the Fondue Gondola. Happy trekking and enjoy your next Lucerne trip!
The experience was about 20 minutes per person and there were two stations.
The round trip is around 45 minutes with a top and middle stop if you want to exit and explore.
