Amnicon Falls State Park in Wisconsin is a great weekending state park. The park features all the basics for a great summer creek swim or just relaxing in the RV area and hiking the area. There’s ample amount to fill a long weekend trip. The main attraction is the waterfall of course but there are ample amounts of walks and playgrounds to enjoy a few days.

Things to Do at Amnicon Falls State Park Wisconsin
The state park is designed around the Amnicon Falls near the entrance to the park. There is an upper and lower portion to the waterfall area and you can swim all along the river (or creek). There’s also a few-mile-long trail that follows the river for about half the length of the trail. The rest of the park is a pretty standard state park. The main issue is the lack of a shower house so be prepared for that.
The rest of the park is pretty quiet and the campground is quaint. There are plenty of trees for shade throughout the campground and there’s a new ranger building that is where you check-in and talk with rangers. There are also group picnic areas if you have larger groups at the park.
Around the Area
Lake Superior is the largest attraction in the area with lots of urban recreation in Duluth and shore activities at Wisconsin Point. There are fishing trips, city parks, city stores and amenities, and beaches all along the shore and around the cities to the northwest.

The park had pretty standard pit toilets and they were cleaned regularly. There are also several water spigots around the campground.

The campsite was a single gravel parking area with a picnic table and fire ring.

The surrounding area has lots to do both around Lake Superior like beaches and there’s the city of Superior, WI and Duluth, MN for urban adventures.

Conclusion
Amnicon Falls State Park is a great family-oriented and weekending state park. The lack of a shower is still a problem but easily managed if needed. There are tons of things to do in the park and around the area. It’s worth spending a day at the state park and well worth driving outside the park and seeing Lake Superior. Northern Wisconsin didn’t disappoint and it was a great launching point to go to northern Minnesota!
The Douglas fault runs through the park and waterfalls and has basalt and sandstone features causing the waterfalls to form.
