We went for a cabin getaway for the weekend to the Ardennes! We stayed at Les Cabanes de Rensiwez and it had a wonderful location! It did have some housekeeping and noise issues but more on that later. Let’s get into it!
Key Takeaways
- Great location! Easy access to great hiking and small Belgian towns!
- Awesome design. Several cabin options from treehouses, creekside, and the mill.
- On site dinner and breakfast options
The Mahe Suite
We stayed in the Mahe Suite which is in the Red Mill. It is one of several in the building. This was a really great room and had great potential! You get to enjoy a stocked kitchen with a small stove, refrigerator, and microwave. You could cook something small if you wanted. The bed is built up in an old fashioned style.
The living room area has a nice sitting area, window open to the creek, and the bath. We kept the big window open for some good creek sounds throughout the day and night.
We did have some dirty housekeeping items and some loud plumbing sounds that happened with other rooms turned on their water. We were able to clean up some stuff ourselves but the sounds happened throughout the day when the upstairs room used their water. This happened until about midnight unfortunately so that kept up awake longer than we wanted. I did let the office know.
The Area
This area of Belgium is known as Wallonia. It’s home to the Ardenne Forest and lots of tiny villages. It’s also home to Bastogne which is a large World War 2 battle site and there’s lot of historic places there.

There are tons of hiking trials throughout the area. We were going to hike to the La Chouffe Brewery but unfortunately we weren’t able to. There was a trail along the creek to the south of the cabin site that would have probably taken us to the brewery. We will have to try again next time!
La Chouffe Brewery
One place I really wanted to visit was La Chouffe Brewery. It was about 15 minutes away by car and was very busy! Be ready to hunt for parking or get there early. We actually found a spot on the edge of the village and walked into town. There are 3 small parking lots but they were packed when we arrived around lunchtime.

There weren’t any available tours on the day we went but you can check to see if you can tour here. There are a few restaurants in town and we visited Achouffe Valley Hotel and Restaurant. It was pretty good!
The brewery grounds is right along the small creek and you can walk around the shop, the small pond and garden, and walk right up to the brewery building. It was a nice, quiet area and I’m glad I was able to at least check out some of the cool spots. It would have been nice to go in and check out the brewery but what can you do!
Conclusion
Les Cabanes de Rensiwez were actually really nice and we are talking about returning for another cabin getaway! Yes, there was some noises and housekeeping issues but we overcame those issues. We would like to return and stay in one of the individual cabins rather than the hotel-type Red Mill. All that to say, we still liked the location and some of the other options available elsewhere on the property!
