Hiking Around Garmisch Germany

I had a wonderful time hiking around Garmisch Germany during a quick relaxing weekend at Edelweiss Lodge and Resort. It was an easy hike and very quaint to get out and go into the hills a little bit. Here’s what I saw and if you’re ever in Garmisch this is a great way to get out for some fresh air!

Riessersee

The first stop on the hike from Edelweiss was the Riessersee up in the foothills. There is a hotel and restaurant next to the lake for gorgeous views of the German Alps. There is a trail around the lake and there are connections to the larger trail network on the lake too. I followed one of the trails on the back end of the lake into the woods.

The lake looks nice. I’m unsure how the summer activities are but it looks like you can swim or kayak in the lake. I bet it’s a lot of fun in the summer. In the winter, you can ice skate but on today’s hike, the ice was thin.

The Trails Around Garmisch

The trails are awesome! You could spend hours back there exploring. I didn’t go too deep but we did see some really interesting stuff while we were out there! We went by the Bobsled Museum near the Garmisch 1936 Olympic Bobsled Course. The museum had some information and pictures. It does have scheduled hours but when we walked by it was closed. You can also walk higher into the woods to see the start and finish areas!

Garmisch Classic Ski Area

The trail popped out near the Garmisch Classic ski area. There was a ski competition on the day we walked by so it was busy. There is very little snow there right now as you can tell in the picture and it was 50°F on the day we were out. Great for hiking but horrible for snow! This area is also convenient for ski fun for those who are staying at Edelweiss.

Garmisch Meadows

The meadow area along the southern portion of Garmsich is a gorgeous hiking and cross-country ski area! You get great views of the hills and mountains and there are trails everywhere! There is even a carved-out area for cross-country skiing if there is enough snow. The train goes by and you can hear the old tin whistle! This area is great for walks, snow activities, biking, and just enjoying the brisk air! Happy trekking!
