Strasbourg France AirBnB Review

We stayed at a prime location Airbnb during our visit to Strasbourg France. It’s in the cathedral plaza right in the center of the Grand Island of the city. You will love this old timber-frame apartment and enjoy the city vibes and sounds but here are a few things to expect if you stay!

Location

The apartment is located on the Cathedral Plaza and you can look out the window and immediately see the church. The apartment is on the top floor and is in a building that has been there since at least the 1800s because, in old photos of the city, you can see it when people have photographed or painted the church and plaza.

If you drive, you will have to plan your parking since it’s in the middle of the city. We parked at the mall here but there are closer albeit more expensive options right by the plaza and apartment. Another thing I had to watch was the height of the parking garage. Most of the parking garages are 1.8 – 1.9 meters so know your vehicle’s height before heading into a parking garage. My van is 1.82 meters tall so I had to avoid the lower, but closer, garages near the center of town. We had to walk to the apartment about 1km.

Finally, cars need to purchase a smog emissions sticker before entering the Strasbourg Emissions Control Zone. You can read more about it here. You input your vehicle type then you pay and they mail it to your home. Here is more information on when the emissions control laws are fully implemented and how they will be tracked. Full implementation won’t start until 2024 then it will be verified by motorway camera so make sure to get your sticker early if you drive!

My Airbnb’s Amenities and Interior

The Airbnb is in the center of Strasbourg and had everything you’d need for a cozy weekend stay. It has kitchen pots, pans, silverware, a refrigerator, and a small range. There’s even a toaster, microwave, and cutting board for your morning baguette! There was a small dining table, TV, and good internet. Finally, it was pet friendly and we did bring Abby our dog.

The bedroom and bathroom are located up a narrow stairway with a rope railing. The bathroom even had a small washing machine if you need to clean your clothes. The bedroom was nice with a full-size bed and a small desk. There was plenty of room for everything.

Here are some of the more challenging things we experienced.

The heat! We went in August and the weather was only expected to be in the 70-80s°F but being on the top floor was hot! We did have a window unit that helped in the bedroom but with the humidity, we had to empty the water collector every few hours, even through the night to maintain a good comfort level.

The bed was also smaller than expected and comparable to an American full-size bed. It was tight quarters for 2 people. Finally, the view is facing the south and not to the east which is the direction of the church. We expected that but there were still great views of the church when you looked out the window it just isn’t the direct view you may want.

If you can make it through some of these inconveniences then this centrally located Airbnb may be just for you! Happy trekking!
